Managers - Find out How to Get Your Resume Read It is no secret that a well-written resume can shorten a job search. f the resume is written in a modern format and demonstrates value to the reader, it will be difficult to overlook especially in a sea of resumes that tend to all look alike. Resume Writing For Job Interview - An Experts Tips
Resume Writing For Job Interview - An Expert's TipsIf you have a lot of experience in a particular industry, you should try to showcase that in your resume writing for job interview. Your potential employer will get an idea of your skills and what you can bring to the organization if they ever had to hire you. What you can do is to focus on areas that are specific to your field. This may include information about what you have accomplished in your career, any awards or accomplishments that are relevant to your company or job, and how you will benefit the organization if hired.Keep the main message clear and concise. Many applicants are too vague in their resume writing for job interview. The potential employer is not going to understand everything in it makes the resume seem unfocused. It is important to clearly state exactly what you did to obtain the position and what you can bring to the organization.Include a summary of all your career paths and education in your resume. By using career paths, you will be able to get an idea of how much experience you have and where you can fit into the organization's current business strategy. If you were recently out of school and have limited experience, you may want to highlight that information. Even someone who has not been out of school in a while may be tempted to use this type of career path when describing his or her past experiences.Remember that your career goals and interests may change throughout your career. Make sure that you are aware of these changes so that you are more likely to highlight what has stayed the same as well as what has changed. For example, if you were once a stay-at-home mom but now are the primary caregiver for your children, you may want to include that in your resume. Be sure to take this into account when writing your resume. In addition to listing the jobs you have held, it is always a good idea to list the professional organizations that you belong to and that you can offer to your po tential employer. You might not be asked about this information during an interview but it could be included in your written resume. You never know who will need to contact you with professional credentials. You should also make sure that you list the key job responsibilities for each job. These will often be listed under your name or your title at the organization. Being clear about what you did will show that you have done the necessary research and have taken the time to include it in your resume.Don't forget to go over your resume a few times to check for spelling mistakes and to ensure that it is flowing properly. Many applicants tend to write their resumes quickly and are not able to go back and review it carefully. If you have had many years to write your resume, that should not be an issue. Once you have submitted your resume, it will be too late to fix it.Finally, don't put too much emphasis on your resume. A great resume is only as good as its content and a potential employ er may not even see it. Try to add some extra information to the end of your resume that will help you stand out.

Loyalty A Dead Workplace Value - Pathfinder Careers
Loyalty A Dead Workplace Value - Pathfinder Careers Loyalty: A Dead Workplace Value? I keep hearing a word that pops up regularly that is completely alarming when I ask job seekers to describe themselves. The conversation usually goes like something like this: Me: âOk, now tell me some of your personal strengths and attributes that make you good for this type of job.â Job seeker: âIâm driven, dedicated, and extremely loyal.â STOP. Letâs interrupt this conversation to have a frank discussion about âloyal.â It always gives me pause because of its contradictory nature when used in the job search process. Semantics mean everything, and this word requires us to dig a little deeper to uncover a huge problem in its use. This brings up two fundamental questions: Question #1: If an applicant is so loyal, then why are they leaving the employer? -or- Question #2: Why arent companies loyal to dedicated employees instead of laying them off? Isnât this expression of âloyaltyâ technically supposed go both ways? Employees are supposed to be loyal to companies⦠and companies are supposed to be loyal to good employees, right? Todayâs reality sure doesnât look that way. FACT: We spend a significant portion of our lifetime in the workplace⦠sometimes even more than we spend with our families, on average. The math doesnât lie: Out of 168 hours in an entire week, we spend approximately 40 sleeping, 73 on our own time, 10 hours commuting, and 45+ hours in the office environment (including lunch time). Out of our entire waking time during any given week, we spend at least 41% in our place of work. Thatâs a significant chunk. With that amount of time being spent with co-workers, itâs easy to come to think of this group somewhat as a âsecond familyâ â" a natural assumption given the complex array of relationships that evolve in working so closely with a group of people over so many hours. But thereâs an emotional connection in there as well, which goes deeper than the perfunctory professional connection. People bond with their fellow employees and supervisors, and thereâs a sense of belonging and security that results. Workers are motivated and inspired to throw themselves into their work and oftentimes, exceed what is being asked of them in an effort to help push the company forward. They invest trust in the management and owners in that the executives have the employees collective back. Then one of three scenarios happens: 1) The unthinkable. Business drops off, or thereâs a change in organizational leadership. Things end up not being the way they used to be. There are more closed-door meetings, and morale might plummet as a result. Staff members donât like the new management or direction, and begin looking for new opportunities and want to jump ship. In other cases, changes like these can mean a pink slip. Struggling to understand, the employees are devastated. âI put my heart and soul into that company!â âI worked hundreds of hours of overtime and never noted it just to get the project done on time.ââI loved my job and always got good reviews⦠what happened?â 2) The flattery of the competitive offer. Youâve worked hard, and itâs been noticed. Competitors try to snatch you away from your current employer and gee, itâs too good to resist so off you go. 3) Boredom / Disconnect. Sometimes, there is simply a shift away from the employerâs engagement in the employee, and the worker begins to feel disconnected and alienated. Thatâs when they begin looking for new opportunities to learn new things, be challenged, or move to the next level of their career because there is nowhere else to grow. How we think about the workplace needs to shift. Sure there are a lot of warm fuzzies that are part of any corporate or business culture, which makes you part of a team. And team chemistry is an important part of the equation. But donât forget, for even one moment, that the workplace is first and foremost a business environment, and your being there is a mutual business decision. Companies make personnel decisions based on business, not loyalty. Some still allow loyalty to be factored into decision making, but that is quickly being phased out. Its all about dollar and cents now. Look at this way: You made a business decision to work for them based on the compensation and work that you would be doing, and they have hired you to do a job based on your skills and performance. Ultimately, Iâm becoming ever convinced that loyalty in the workplace has become obsolete. Long gone are the allegiances that employees make to a company that seem forever binding, and stay in the same position for time immemorial until they retire. And conversely, employers may overlook long-serving employees and see an opportunity to eliminate dead wood, infuse new ideas, and trim overhead costs. Loyalty expressed now in a résumé or cover letter almost seems a quaint, outdated expression instead of a statement of integrity these days. So what do you think? Do you think employee loyalty exists still? Do employers still express loyalty to long-serving employees? Or is this all about to be erased?

What Youre Doing Wrong as an (Aspiring) Multi-Passionate Business Owner - When I Grow Up
What Youre Doing Wrong as an (Aspiring) Multi-Passionate Business Owner - When I Grow Up Do you know if youâre multi-passionate? If not, letâs check off some of the big boxes, shall we?: You take a deep dive into one new passion/hobby/interest at a time or like to dip your toes into a few different things at once You immerse yourself in something new, but once youâve gotten the gist or worked on it for a certain length of time you lose interest and are ready to move on You often have âshiny object syndromeâ, meaning that oh look, a squirrel! You thrive on variety, getting super bored if youâre forced to do the same thing day in and day out Youâre a quick learner, and usually like the figuring-out-something-new piece of whatever youâre taking on You rebel when you try to pick one thing and when youâre forced to, it rarely sticks You feel more like a Jill Of All Trades than an expert in any one thing You have trouble prioritizing, rarely wanting to let go of something thatâs fun or meaningful for you and wanting to do it all now! If you nodded your head to most of these, then Welcome! I hope you know youâre amongst your people, and weâre everywhere. Yup, not only have we got each other, but we got celebrities like Oprah, Justin Timberlake, Donald Glover, Steve Martin, Drew Barrymore you get the gist. Despite the fact that many of the most talented people in the world are multi-passionate, I probably donât have to tell you that we have gotten a bum rap. People label us flaky and distracted, society looks down at our nonlinear careers and choices, and counselors and advisors throughout our lives try to put us in a box that we keep breaking down. While I want to rise up and tell you that Iâm not here for *any* of that nonsense, Iâd be doing us all a disservice if I pretended we werenât these things. So instead, what if we leaned into our multi-passionate nature? What if we consciously build our dream businesses around this personality trait of ours and all that comes with it? What if we see our multi-passionate nature as a blessing instead of a curse? Hereâs what weâre doing wrong as (aspiring) multi-passionate business owners and what we can do instead: Stop trying to niche our business to death, and find the umbrella theme (alt: Choose the And of your dream business instead of the Or, as I like to say). If any of my clients land on a business idea that really boxes them in, I donât allow them to continue down that road. Full stop. For example: I will not let you start a âcupcake businessâ or a âself-care retreat businessâ or a âpattern design businessâ. Sure, yes, you can absolutely bake cupcakes or design patterns or run self-care retreatsbut you shouldnât then label yourself or your businesses that way, at least internally. What happens when the cupcake baker wants to make some brownies or soup? What about the graphic artist who wants to branch out from pattern design and produce her own products? What about the woman who runs self-care retreats when she decides she also wants to teach classes, coach, or run corporate workshops? I always work with my clients on finding and leading with their mission statement i nstead. That way, our business becomes like the Tardis: clear and focused and compact on the outside, but expansive with plenty of elbow room on the inside. Stop doing everything yourself, and delegate the stuff you donât *need* to be doing. Can you teach yourself the rules of branding and Canva and put together a logo or social media images for your business? Sure. Should you spend your precious time doing that if itâs out of your wheelhouse? Probably not. Remember: time is a form of currency too, and often more important than money. Pass along the work that either youâre not interested in doing, donât do well, or is derailing your business. The return youâll get on your investment will be well worth it. Experiment with time blocks so you can build variety into your workweek without feeling scattered. My own schedule is loosely structured like this: Mondays and Tuesdays for client sessions, Wednesdays for group programs, Thursdays for writing and Fridays for admin. It helps my brain know what the main priority for the day is, and I rarely feel like Iâm doing the same thing from one day to the other. But also: if I donât feel like writing on Thursday and I wanna do admin instead? As long as Iâm not missing deadlines, I can do a switcheroo and nobodyâs the wiser! My multi-passionate nature loves this. Let yourself sit on a new idea/interest for at least 4 weeks before pulling the trigger. Want to start a podcast? Great! Set a reminder on your phone right now that will ask you, a month from now, âStill want to start a podcast? See when you can fit it into your current workload.â If you do, then head to your calendar and see if thereâs room. If so, start the research and plan that podcast launch! However, if you have too much on your plate now to start your podcast sans head explosion, then either (a) see what youâd need to press Pause on instead and decide whether you want to do that, or (b) pencil it in to your calendar when there is some whitespace and take it from there. Repeat after me: do.not.act.on.anything.right.away.without.time.for.reflection.and.planning.please.and.thank.you. Take up a hobby that has nothing to do with your business. Sign up for a Skillshare class on hand lettering. Pick up a ukulele and teach yourself with YouTube videos. Sign up for a 5k and get out the door most mornings. Whatever is calling to you that will scratch your creative/learning itch and sounds fun, make time for it. Remember, youâre allowed to have your own interests that have nothing to do with work and I promise that theyâll make you more productive (and happy!) in your business. Have a clear and concise elevator pitch and practice it so itâs second nature. Because seriously, there is nothing that feels worse than answering âSo, what do you do?â with a meandering narrative about how you do X by day but youâre also working on Y on your own time but, um, maybe also thinking of Z? Nope nope nope and nope. Fill in the blanks instead: âI help ______ with ________.â or âI make ________ for ______.â Then say it over and over again, out loud, like a crazy person. Then say it verbatim when someone asks you. Then stop talking and wait for them to say something else. I promise youâll both look and feel more confident than you can imagine. And please remember this: Thereâs so much about us thatâs awesome. Weâre lifelong learners, we thrive on variety, weâre creative, we can juggle lots of virtual balls in the air, weâre big thinkers and dreamers, weâre natural entrepreneurs, and we always have something to share and teach to others. Letâs hang our hats on that and show the world that multi-passionates can run the world and successful businesses. Who run the world? Beyoncé. And sheâs a multi-passionate, too. Want to learn how to clarify, launch and build your own multi-passionate-friendly business from a multi-passionate business coach with 11 years of experience? Then youâll want to check out Dream To Done before the no-obligation apps close tomorrow!
